The GOP Open Seats

While our Democratic friends are out there popping the corks on champagn and imagining themselves back in power for all time to come, Tom Bevan over at Real Clear Politics takes note of the 12 open GOP seats from Tuesday, and how the GOP fared.

The GOP lost 7, held 5; and of the 7 lost, three were lost to scandal (Ney, DeLay, Foley) - absent those scandals, we would have held 8, lost 5. This still wouldn't have been enough to save our House majority, but it also is yet more proof that there wasn't a huge Democratic wave in 2006...the Democrats did a bit less well than historical trends would indicate - since its just a bit less well, we have to call it within the margin of error and say the Democrats are to be congratulated for not screwing it up.

For those of us who remember election night 1986, what happened this past Tuesday almost seems like a GOP victory.

Now, lets move on to 2008.

Conservatism won the election for Democrats who posed/or are sincerely conservative. It remains to be seen if they were sincere, or if they are more like a Shrillary-fakir conservative.

you mean "held 8 and lost FOUR" right?

Gully,

Yes.

Dagney,

That is true - especially with the massive approvals of bans on gay marriage and several anti-Kelo property rights initiatives passing, along with Michigan's ban on racial quotas. We still rule the roost, we just have the earn the trust of the American people again.
