Democrats and Their Interns: A Continuing Problem

You'd think they'd start to figure this out:

CHICAGO (AP) - An intern in Sen. Barack Obama's office last year was recommended by an Illinois Democratic fundraiser later indicted for seeking kickbacks on government deals.

Obama has denied doing any favors for Antoin ``Tony'' Rezko, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. The internship was one of 98 Illinois spots filled from a pool of 350 applicants.

John Aramanda, a 20-year-old student, served in Obama's Capitol Hill office from July 20 to Aug. 26, 2005, and was paid an $804 stipend, Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs told the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times in reports published Sunday.

Gibbs said Rezko recommended the intern to Obama but contended that the internship did not contradict Obama's statements about not doing any favors for Rezko.

True, its not like there were cigars and such involved here, but for anyone in DC post-Clinton and post-Foley to have any hint of scandal involving interns betrays a lack of common sense...and, in this case, its a rather glaring lack of sense on the part of Obama: its not like Rezko only recently got into trouble. Rezko started to become political kryptonite a while back ago, and anyone who has Presidential aspirations would wisely steer clear of him, and his interns.

Fortunately for you, if Obama gets the nomination you'll have plenty of time to hype his real ethical lapses, if they exist. In the interim, I'll just continue to shake my head that you waste precious time with worthless posts such as this.

This is a non-story that is being used by desperate people trying to knock down one of the democrats rising stars... read more about Rezko and Obama here...

I have to agree with the other 2 commenters. Employing someone that a friend recomended should not be held against you. Heck, I higher, date and have lunch with people that other people I know said would be ok many times. That doesn't mean I'm corrupt.

He has to have something else in his past that matters so drop this line.

Whats with that "Caucus of Corruption" ad below the post - with a blurb by Tom DeLay!!!

My respect for you has just gone way up. To make such deeply biting sarcastic fun of yourselves is a sign of strength of character. Now, if you could take the necessary next step and to find some way to rid your party of its endemic corruption, y'all might find yourselves starting on the long road back to respectability. Godd luck!

Oh sure, and using a made up term like macaca can cost an election after someone dug and dug to find it's definition. Democrats = nonsory, republicans BIG Story

Hurst,

If macaca was "made-up" how were people able to find the "definition" -- which, by the way, is a racial slur?

Also, if you listen to sound byte of the incident, you'll hear that Allen "welcomes" S.R. Sidarth, or as Allen called him "macaca," to this country.

Sidarth is an Indian-American, born and raised in Virginia. So basically, because of the color of this guy's skin, Allen called this him a racial slur while inferring he was not from the US or Virginia, when in fact he was one of Allen's constituents.

Damn right that should have cost him the election. We don't need people like that in office. And if that didn't cost him the election, taking select passages from Webb's books detailing life in Vietnaim for US soldiers and claiming it showed his lack character, surely did.

Good riddance, Allen.
