With over 12,000 votes in, the latest GOP Bloggers 2008 Straw Poll of GOP contenders shows Romney as both the number one 'first choice' of bloggers and blog readers and the 'most acceptable candidate.'
First Choice:
| Romney | |
| Gingrich | |
| Giuliani | |
Candidate Acceptability:
| Romney | 5793 | +46.5% | |
| Gingrich | 5708 | +45.8% | | |||||
| Giuliani | 4214 | +33.8% | |
(Results captured approximately 1:10 pm ET)
Supporters of the top 3 potential candidates (Romney, Guiliani and Gingrich) are largely committment to their respective candidate of choice, which puts Romney in a very strong position to launch a very successful online grassroots campaign. With his impressive exploratory committee website, and his campaign's clear understanding of how to use the internet to respond to attacks quickly, Romney has proven himself very able to win the GOP nomination.
UPDATE: Robert Bluey observes:
While Romney appears to be making strides -- although 27.6% isn't anywhere near a majority -- Sen. John McCain is losing ground. Romney's decision to invest heavily in his online operation should send McCain a message: It's time to overhaul the black-and-white website with something more substantive and hire a full-time person to deal with bloggers.Also, the Romney campaign is touting the results.
Stephen Smith, Romney's director of online communications, highlighted the results today in an e-mail to bloggers:The results are in! Governor Romney wins the January edition of the GOP Bloggers straw poll, in terms of “first choice” and of “candidate acceptability.”
Other interesting points from the crosstabs:
• Governor Romney leads “first choice” at all levels of vote certainty;
• Governor Romney leads “first choice” at all levels of blog readership;
• Governor Romney comes in the top three in “first choice” and “candidacy acceptability” at each of the top eight participating blogs.

Romney must be nominated!

As time goes on, as I learn more and more - I become far less impressed or pleased with Guiliani and McCain, and am far more supportive of Mit Romney. For any true Reagan or Social Conservative to not support Romney for 2008, they have to be out of their minds! Why go with McCain who's often cranky/emotional and too old, or Guiliani who supports gay marriage and abortion?
MITT ROMNEY for 2008!

You included Hagel and Gingrich who aren't in yet, but left out Ron Paul who is!

If you want Romney nominated, go ahead and use this webpage to email his campaign site to your friends. It is very friendly, and allows you to input your own text. I sent out about 100 emails, and have gotten dozens of positive response.

I'm just a lousy housewife with a substantial number of kids but the more I read the more SUCKED IN I get to the hope that an ultra-competent yet compassionate man like MITT ROMNEY could run the entire free world. Would he really go after Iran the way he talks? Mercy, that type of rhetoric is intoxicating to a mother who is extremely interested in not having her children blown up at the supermarket because some liberal singing Kum-bay-ya made it into the White House. I might have to start sending the kids' milk money into the campaign if the info on Mr. Romney gets anymore compelling. I imagine a large segment of U.S. housewives are secretly feeling the same way, and WE DO VOTE!
