Helmets, Seat Belts, Trans Fats, Light Bulbs...the Nanny State Leviathan

The nanny state is a Leviathan that must be smitten. It's not enough for busybody politicians to meddle in all the intricacies of our lives that they already stick their noses into. They already made it illegal to ride without helmets and drive without seat belts. Then they made it a crime to cook using Now a California Democrat (I know, shocking) is proposing something even more asinine.

A California lawmaker wants to make his state the first to ban incandescent lightbulbs as part of California's groundbreaking initiatives to reduce energy use and greenhouse gases blamed for global warming.

It would be a joke if this clown were not in government. Where will this incessant intrusion into our right to engage in free commerce end? If only the Republican party had the backbone to stand for free market capitalism there would be an intellectually honest opposition. But backsliding on the science fiction-based hysteria of "climate change" and the job-killing minimum wage do not bode well for those who believe in free markets.

UPDATE: I forgot to mention that California Democrats also want to tell you how to raise your kids

Compact Fluros contain mercury, which are far more dangerous and difficult for homeowners to dispose of. If I'm not mistaken, they are also not able to be used in dimmer-controlled lights, are sensitive to temperatures - especially colder climes, more expensive to buy, and the light generated itself is hard for most people to deal with.

The state appears to be picking winners again. Mandating fluro lights means that other, more efficient and less expensive forms of illumination will not be able to be marketed in California because the law specifies fluros.
