Norm Coleman Reelected

Al Franken says he's going to run for the U.S. Senate... Assuming he's the only Democrat who enters the race, that means he'll go against Republican Norm Coleman... In otherwords, Norm Coleman will be reelected.

Is this prognostication based on the same powers of analysis that predicted Republican gains last November?
I wouldn't count my chickens before they're hatched -- no matter what "Wonkette" may say.
Coleman in a weak sister, generally considered one of the three most vulnerable GOP senators in 2008.
Franken is dead serious and let's not forget who elected a professional wrestler to serve as governor.

Think of who preceeded Norm Coleman in the Senate: Paul Wellstone. Minnesota is a state that elected one of the most liberal members in recent memory, and also elected a former wrestler governor (as listed above).

Minnesotans are not going to dimiss Franken because he is a celebrity; as much as you might not want to admit it, issues matter. If Franken is deemed better on the issues than Coleman, Franken will win. And I believe he will.

But yes, seconding the above comment, you guys predicted that Republicans would hold both chambers of Congress in November. How did that go?

Nova,

Anything can happen in politics - but one of the least likely things is a lying, rhetorical bomb-thrower like Franken getting elected...you forget that Wellstone didn't run as a kook, which Franken would be forced to simply because he's held to kook positions for the past five years.
