During a time of war, a luxurious plane is the top priority of Democrats like Nancy Pelosi, so much so that she has Rep. Murtha threatening the DOD on her behalf.
UPDATE: Rep. Hensarling issues a statement:
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX), Chairman of the Republican Study Committee, today called on Congressman John Murtha (D-PA) to clarify threatening comments directed at the Pentagon and U.S. Military. Rep. Murtha, Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, said in the San Francisco Chronicle and on CNN that the Pentagon made "a mistake" by talking about this story, since Speaker Pelosi "decides on the allocations for the Department of Defense.""Resorting to the use of bullying tactics against the Pentagon is reckless and irresponsible, particularly while our nation is at war," said Hensarling.
"It is hard to believe that any member of Congress would threaten funding for the Pentagon and men and women of our armed forces, simply because Speaker Pelosi wasn't given her own 42 seat military jet," he said. "It is especially surprising that these comments would come from someone who has served his nation with great courage and sacrifice."

Matt,
First of all, where's the threat? What did Murtha say specifically that threatened the Pentagon.
Second, you're still pushing this story?
"This is a silly story and I think it's been unfair to the speaker," White House spokesman Tony Snow said.
AND
Pelosi said she would be happy to fly on commercial airliners but said the House sergeant-at-arms office urged her to continue Hastert's practice of using Air Force transport. She said she was informed on her first trip home that her plane would not make it across the country.
"I said well, that's fine, I'm going commercial," she told Fox News. "I'm not asking to go on that plane. If you need to take me there for security purposes, you're going to have to get a plane that goes across the country, because I'm going home to my family."

People who do not like Pelosi are distorting the truth of the matter so they can attack her for political gain. Plain and simple.

This is for Shipley -
Murtha said he is convinced the Pentagon has been leaking information about the possibility that Pelosi would use large military planes to make her look bad. But he said, "They're making a mistake when they leak it because she decides on allocations for them,'' referring to the Pentagon budget.

I dont know, maybe it wasnt a threat, maybe Murtha was just explaining how he supports the troops - by playing power games with their funding.
Personally, I dont care if Pelosi rides in a lear jet or commutes on her P.O.B (Privately Owned Broom), but I think Murtha needs to settle down a little bit.

I think Murtha's pissed because people at the Pentagon were giving Pelosi a hard time about her request. He's not threatening them, he's basically saying, "look, this is the woman who controls your budget, it's not very smart to f*ck with her like this." Which is what members of the Pentagon were doing when they spoke to the press about this. They gave a distorted view of what really happened so that people like Matt could make grand statements like these:
"During a time of war, a luxurious plane is the top priority of Democrats like Nancy Pelosi, so much so that she has Rep. Murtha threatening the DOD on her behalf."
This whole thing is much ado about nothing that the GOPBlogger sycophants are only too happy to jump on as part of their ongoing smear campaign against Dems, truth be damned.

So, its your contention that despite the threatening language, it wasnt a threat?
Is this another example of a non-threat from Murtha?
Murtha said he will hold hearings that examine the use of military planes by members of Congress and Bush administration officials for the past two fiscal years. Asked whether the hearings are payback for the decision on Pelosi's request, he smiled and said, ``Would I do something like that?''

I dont really agree that its much ado about nothing. It would seem to me that the most powerful women in the world decided that a freekin lear jet wasnt good enough. The Queen of America didnt want to be bothered to stop and refuel once on the way to ca.
Pollution be damned.
Military resources be damned.
Budget be damned.
Republicans can worry about those things while Nancy sits alone in her flying palace.
