As everyone in America knows, Anna Nicole Smith died at a very young age last week. It's a personal tragedy, mostly for her infant, and now orphaned, daughter. But the story has exactly no implications for the nation or the world; it's importance is non-existent. Then there's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. He is a fanatical Muslim who believes that he can trigger the cataclysmic showdown between Islam and the unbelievers that will usher in the end of time. He just so happens to be the president of Iran and is getting dangerously close to building nuclear weapons (that's where the "cataclysmic showdown between Islam and the unbelievers that will usher in the end of time" comes into play).

The average American probably has a fairly good understanding of the Anna Nicole Smith situation, because of the abundant MSM coverage. The average American probably also has a fairly bad understanding of Iran's danger to America and the world, since messianic Muslims whose national pastime is martyrdom are simply not deterrable the way the U.S.S.R. was. The MSM's well-documented bias is not only at work in its domestic political coverage, but in its refusal to inform Americans of the peril we face. But what do you expect of a seemingly monolithic institution that fawns all over dictators like Ahmadinejad and Syria's tyrant Bashar Assad while demonizing America, at least while we have a Republican President? Diane Sawyer's sycophantic coverage last week was absolutely pathetic and on par with Mike Wallace's inane "interview" of Ahmadinejad in which Wallace was used as a PR prop by the genocidal, albeit wily, Iranian leader.
