George Washington was born on this date in 1732. Those who study history have an appreciation that history as it transpired was not inevitable and that the chain of innumerable events that has led to where we are today was not foreordained. History is driven by the willful actions of man and man can alter the course of history. George Washington may be the best example in American history of a man whose singular and indispensable leadership were vital to a significant historical outcome. Although we just celebrated something called "Presidents Day," it is important to remember that its origin is Washington's birthday and to recall the greatness and importance of our first President.
