John Podhoretz is at the Plame coming out party in Congress today:
Valerie Plame Wilson complained that Dick Cheney — the elected vice president of the United States — made an "unprecedented number of visits" to the CIA in the run-up to the Iraq war. She's right. It's shocking. Evidently, Cheney actually listened to the CIA.
Wow, that's an amazing bit of spin for such a short number of words! Are you sure you haven't been taking lessons from Secretary of State Rice when she made all the mistakes in those 42 words broadcast on Fox News?
It starts off with the truth, as most spin does: "Valerie Plame Wilson complained that Dick Cheney — the elected vice president of the United States — made an "unprecedented number of visits" to the CIA in the run-up to the Iraq war. She's right."
But then in Olberman's words - HERE WE GO AGAIN - a massive leap is made from the truth to the depths of spin, when the 'reason' is given as Cheney 'listened to the CIA'
What a load of garbage!
Cheney DICTATED to the CIA what was acceptable for them to release and what was not. That's the way he and Bush work. Bush is The Decider and Cheney is The Deputy Decider, and between the two of them they know what's good for the entire planet.
Scooter Libby, while not the worst offender, has got caught out lying under oath, but you have YET TO PUNISH the original leaker. From the BBC: "A US former Deputy Secretary of State, Richard Armitage, has admitted that he first disclosed that Ms Plame was an undercover CIA agent."
So no, Cheney wasn't there to listen to the CIA, Cheney was there to make sure the CIA said publically what Bush and Cheney wanted it to say, and to punish anyone who got in the way of that. That's the way this administration works.
No amount of spin will cover it up.
