Obama Exaggerates Kansas Tornada Fatalities
by Matt Margolis at 12:18 AM

Was he being stupid? Perhaps...

Barack Obama, caught up in the fervor of a campaign speech Tuesday, drastically overstated the Kansas tornadoes death toll, saying 10,000 had died.

The death toll was 12.

"In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died—an entire town destroyed," the Democratic presidential candidate said in a speech to 500 people packed into a sweltering Richmond art studio for a fundraiser.

How could he be so wrong? I think answer lies within:
Obama mentioned the disaster in Greensburg, Kan., in saying he had been told by the office of Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius that the state's National Guard had been depleted by its commitment to the Iraq War.

"Turns out that the National Guard in Kansas only had 40 percent of its equipment and they are having to slow down the recovery process in Kansas," Obama said, his shirt sleeves rolled up and his head glistening with sweat.

As the Illinois senator concluded his remarks a few minutes later, he appeared to realize his gaffe.

Was Obama's gaffe influenced by a subconscious desire to blame Bush for the death of 9988 people who did not die?

Certainly puts the whole "Blame Bush for Katrina" thing into perspective. Democrats are so insistent in blaming Bush for anything and everything (no matter how dubious the connection) that they often make idiots of themselves overstating death tolls, exaggerating responsibility, etc. etc.

It is unfortunate that the left has focussed so much of their attention on blaming the Bush administration for every little thing. For instance, I was listening to a radion station yesterday and the DJ blamed the Bush administration for tele-marketers calling his cell phone... are you kidding me???

It is going to be interesting to see if ANY notice is given after the 2008 election, where suddenly the eco-system is restored, the peace and tranquility restored, and tele-marketers banished... regardless of who is president...

At what point is it all just too much?
