Larry Kudlow notes that Sarkozy in France is set to implement Reaganomics...and also notes that a certain political party is still clueless:
Now that French voters are giving him a decisive parliamentary majority, President Nicolas Sarkozy is going to launch a pro-growth, tax cutting, deregulation, reform plan.In other words, Reaganomics finally comes to France.
Here at home, all the Democrats running for president (except New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson) want to raise personal and corporate taxes. They want to punish profits.
So, let me get this right: while Reaganomics spreads from Eastern Europe—with low flat tax plans proliferating everywhere—into Western Europe, the supply-side model still has not infiltrated the Democratic party.
And to make matters worse, House Dems are now proposing a 4.3 percent surtax on successful earners that will allegedly solve the AMT problem, but in fact, might end up hitting families making as low as $75,000...
There is much cause for worry as we head into 2008 - there is an anti-GOP undertow in politics; but if, as Kudlow goes on to note, the Democrats are really going to campaign on tax-and-spend and McGovernite surrender, then the GOP might have a very bright year coming.
As for me, its a matter of the leopard being unable to change his spots - Democrats have put themselves into a series of absurd positions which they cannot climb down from without acute embarassment...and, so, what they do is shout all the louder about how right they are and how wrong we are, and hope that the MSM will cover for them. Mostly, this hasn't worked since 1980...though it did work in 1992, and 2006. This is really rather strange - after a while, the GOP became "less of the same" vis a vis the New Deal once it had become ingrained in the American way of doing business...but the Democrats, decades after Reagan showed how its done, refuse to see it...
Democrats: Stuck in the 30's
No doubt! Great article, Mark. Good news for France. Go Sarkozy!

It is for reasons like the article mentions that as a Republican I am unconcerned about a GOP meltdown again in 2008. The Democrats and liberals in general JUST DO NOT GET IT. The economic policies, espeically those related to tax policy are disasterous. In fact most days I question if any liberal every passed Economics in college. The only reason they ever have a change when it comes to the economy is because their policies benefit the lazy slobs of this country who just don't want to work and expect everything to be handed to them.

Andrew, Do you have any statistics that state only "lazy slobs" benefit from government programs or what percentage they represent?
As for taxes, people are taxed at the rate they are willing to pay and receive services in return. The US economy is different than most developed economies in the world in that a large amount of consumerism is one of the main drivers. The lower the taxes leads to more consumerism in America and the economy grows. So far, so good. However, the services that were cut now picked up by the individuals as either paying a private company or in other taxes, such as property tax.
A simple example is with the school systems. public schools may not be what they once were, but they still educate more people that private schools. If the government were to cut school funding and all the schools went private, do you think that everyone would be able to afford paying for them? And before you state that the schools would be cheap, that is not necessarily true. Private does not mean necessarily mean better service or cheaper.
Medicine in this country is largely private, but Americans pay far more than any other country in the world for medical care and drugs. The Post Office is semi-private and we share some of the lowest rates for mailing a letter than any other industrialized nation.
I am not trying to offend anyone, I just want to have a coherent conversation.
