Democrat Donor Pulls the Plug
by Mark Noonan at 01:02 AM

More evidence that the kook left is going to cause massive trouble for any Democrat trying to get 270 electoral votes in 2008:

One of Florida's leading Democratic rainmakers has called the whole thing off.

Orlando trial lawyer John Morgan, who has personally given hundreds of thousands of dollars to Democrats and helped raise much more, is so fed up with his party's failure to stop the war in Iraq that he canceled an upcoming fundraiser at his home. Take $250,000 and kiss it good-bye.

''I told Chuck Schumer, I'm through,'' he said, referring to the New York senator who heads the Democratic Party's fundraising arm for the Senate. "As a Democratic donor, I am going on strike.''

Morgan is considering full-page ads in the New York Times, Washington Post and USA Today to encourage other donors to join his boycott, disgusted with the latest effort by Democratic senators to stop the war by pulling an all-nighter.

The kook left thinks that the Democrats won in 2006 on the strength of anti-war sentiment - even though the Democrats didn't run on an anti-war platform and made no promises in 2006 that they would end the war. They did run on a "new direction" in Iraq, but that was just bogus campaign rhetoric designed to hit Republicans over an increasingly unpopular war without actually putting forth a Democrat plan which would then be open to criticism. Unfortunately for the left, they thought "new direction" meant surrender, and now that the Democrats are surrendering, they are mighty ticked off.

Being ticked off, they are going to take it out on any Democrat who doesn't endorse and vigorously campaign on defeat in Iraq - and given the nature of kook leftism, they'll keep this pressure on even after its completely clear that the dynamic in Iraq is entirely in America's favor.

My bet remains that Gore will get in late, he'll flatten everyone else with an aggressive anti-war stance, and then he'll be crushed in November in a McGovern-style route.
