I just hope the conservative base gets behind Romney, if Thompson turns out not to be the "ideal" candidate.

Conservative voters are going to get behind Huckabee when Fred Thompson turns out to be a fizzle... Huckabee has broad appeal and consistant conservative records. Romney may suffer the Flip-Flopping issue (as what killed Kerry) in the General election.
The GOP needs to look at not who can win the nomination, but who can win the general election. They need to stop looking at the who "definately will" vote for a candidate, and start looking at who "definately will not" vote for candidates like Rudy and Romney. Especially from the independents!
With Rudy or Romeny at the helm for the general election, I just don't see a good election in 2008 for the GOP.

I still think when the people get to know Gov. Romney and really get to know the man and what he stands for they will vote for him. He is a bright, innovative leader and also not a Washington insider.
