Former GOP Bloggers contributor Deborah Weiss, writing at Frontpage Magazine, discusses the Department of Justice's decision to pay the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) to have a booth at its 44th Annual Convention. She writes,
Ironically, ISNA, along with NAIT (North American Islamic Trust), an organ of ISNA, were recently named unindicted co-conspirators in DOJ’s criminal case against the Holy Land Foundation (HLF). The Holy Land Foundation is an Islamic "charity" whose assets were frozen by President Bush because it was giving money to Hamas. The trial is taking place in Texas at this very moment.Read the whole thing. There has been some debate about whether or not it is a wise thing for DOJ to make an appearance at the ISNA convention. If you look at ISNA’s website at a glance, it appears to be a "mainstream", even "moderate" Islamic organization, whose main objective is to ensure the civil rights of Muslim Americans, and to engage in educational and charitable works. A cursory internet search of some of the board members might even provide the impression that its leadership is very involved in humanitarian works, and trying hard to "bridge the gap" between Islam and other faiths.
