Flip Flop: Democrats Plan Shorter Workweek
by Matt Margolis at 10:05 AM

Now this is just classic. I can remember the absolute shock -- the shock -- when Democrats were talking a 5-day workweek for Congress. It was all part of the image they were trying to present that "with the Democrats in charge, Congress was going to get back to work for the American people." Well, that idea was pretty much dead on arrival. But, now, Democrats are looking to shorten the workweek for Congress.

Shortly after winning a majority last year, Democrats triumphantly declared that they would put Congress back to work, promising an “end to the two-day workweek.” And indeed, the House has clocked more time in Washington this year than in any other session since 1995, when Republicans, newly in control, sought to make a similar point.

But 10 months into the session, with their legislative agenda often in gridlock with the Bush administration and a big election year looming, the Democrats are now planning a lighter schedule when the 110th Congress begins its second year in mid-January.

The House majority leader, Representative Steny H. Hoyer of Maryland, told fellow Democrats this week that the House would not be in session next year on Fridays, except in June for work on appropriations bills.

Explaining that decision to reporters, Mr. Hoyer said, “I do intend to have more time for members to work in their districts and to be close to their families.”

His comments drew snickers from Republicans, who are quite happy to share their view that the American people did not get much value for all the extra time lawmakers spent in Washington.

“Is this a reward for our accomplishments in 2007?” asked Representative Roy Blunt of Missouri, the Republican whip.

I guess the Do Nothing Democrats are looking to do even less.

They actually came up with a good idea. Praise the Lord! They need to spend more time out golfing, hunting, boating. That will be less time trying to come up with new taxes. take away peoples freedoms, come up with new protected classes of citzens and hate crimes bills for them , ect.. ect... Bush spent more than any other president, He out libbed the liberals. So their really is no use for them hanging around wanting to spend more. They really have to get conservative now. Cause their broke?

I can't believe the world I'm growing up in. Its pathetic, neither the republicans nor the democrats can get anything done. Everyone is making mistakes left and right, the government is nearly 9 TRILLION dollars in debt with that only becoming bigger, and the media controls the population like some sort of mind control device.

I really hope my generation does better.

As the Senate Majority Leader Harry 'Hands Up' Reid starts each session with a loudly voiced 'OINK.'
This is to notify his colleagues that another 'PORK' seeion has begun.
Perhaps a shorter work week will give Ol Hands Up less time to spread the PORK!
