Republicans clearly failed to understand why they got clobbered in the 2006 election. By aligning with Democrats to overturn the President's veto of a pork-laden, earmark-ridden water bill, they demonstrated a disappointing continuation of their disdain for taxpayers.
Congress delivered its first override of a veto by President Bush on Thursday, giving final approval to a $23-billion bill that authorizes water projects eagerly sought by lawmakers from both parties.I can't understand how GOP bigwigs can lament their severe fundraising disadvantage and keep soliciting me to "stop the Democrats" when they keep acting like them. The Senate overwhelmingly voted to override the veto, 79 to 14, with a majority of Republicans and Democrats rejecting Bush's assertion that the bill was fiscally irresponsible. The House voted earlier this week to override the veto...
In the House, 138 Republicans joined 223 Democrats earlier this week to override the veto.
This is what happens when a bunch of old politicians concern themselves more with getting reelected than doing the "Right" thing. What they fail to realize, due to cowardice or ignorance, Conservatism wins every time against Liberalism when debating issues. I sometimes wonder if the Republican party is lost. It seems to me that the Republican party is the old "Kennedy" Democrats, and the Liberals are the Marxist party. If they do not wake up soon, the sequel of the horror movie "The Clinton Years" will make it through production. Though they won't win because of ideas, but because of frustration by Conservative voters.

Good to see that you're fighting for fiscal responsibility. I assume you'll also be asking your lawmakers to cut funding for the war in Iraq.

Sooo.... You believe we should ignore the water problems in the Southeast states and the incomplete work in Louisiana? In a sense, leaving them high and dry or is that low and wet in New Orleans case? I do so hope your views are in the minority. Common sense truely can't be that dead these days.

Good, some acknowledgement that fiscal irresponsibility is driving voters away from the Republicans. Now maybe you will support the only fiscally responsible presidential candidate, Ron Paul.

Jon, we all have had this sad realization that the GOP party is acting like democrats. Thats why Ron Paul has such support, he's the only republican left running for president.

mmmmm. So am I to understand that we don't want to spend our tax dollars domestically? What happened to the slogan "Buy locally"? I'd rather the gov't spend our tax dollars with us, rather than the $10 billion provided to Pakistan, with few results. I agree with our Republicans that moved to provide these dollars domestically. I believe that there is an argument that this IS a show of fiscal responsibility - not in the sense of spending money, rather where it is being spent.
And were interests of political member's communities an influence in their decisions - YOU BET THEY WERE. Our senators and representatives are elected to represent the interests of their local communities - it's their job to do this. This is a great example of power to the states, which is supposed to be one of our - Republicans - core beliefs. Did we forget this???
