David Ignatius is a thoughtful foreign affairs correspondent for the Washington Post and certainly no neo-con or Bush advocate. Here's is take on Iraq and Afghanistan.
Traveling in Iraq and Afghanistan in late January, I kept encountering two themes that cut across the usual U.S. political debate about these conflicts: The hard-nosed operations of U.S. Special Forces are increasingly effective, and so are the soft-power tactics of provincial reconstruction teams.Nancy Pelosi must be missing her national security briefings.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said twice Sunday that Iraq “is a failure,” adding that President Bush’s troop surge has “not produced the desired effect.”Sure, she stresses that the troops have performed magnificently but that the political reconciliation that the surge was supposed to have provided security for has not materialized (the Democrats' fallback position since the military success is undeniable). But the Democratic rule of Congress is older than the surge and they have not even gotten earmark reform done yet, so they shouldn't be complaining.
No she knows exactly what shes doing...its a Stalinist propaganda tactic....
Appear undetered or ignore the reported facts...they know most people will believe uncritically the proponent that 'appears' most confident...
Bill Clinton was a master of this technique and he was able to bluff his way to the Presidency...
Doesnt say much about the average American's thinking skills or individuality
